Ras Mo on Stage
Ras Mo’s musical shows combine contemporary forms such as dub poetry and hip-hop with modern French Creole folk music, and Afro-Caribbean rhythms (reggae, zouk, and soca). There is always the invitation to dance to the pulsating melodies and lively percussion.
Ras Mo’s original English and Creole lyrics arise from his violence-prevention and environmental work, carnival celebrations, and folk lore of his native Dominica. They explore the need for men to oppose the abuse of women and value and support their children, the hopes and grief of immigrants, struggles of today’s youth, resistance of the poor to oppression, pranks of jumbies and other mythic beings, and the powers of nature, Jah, and human love.
Ras Mo’s storytelling and poetry can be performed as solo spoken word pieces or accompanied by a drum ensemble or a full band.
